![]() Your PC is pretty great at regulating its own chassis temperature, and if your components were really getting too toasty, you'd know about it before any harm was ever done. Though now when I've got a good view of what's going on there, I let sleeping dogs lie after that. When I swap a component out, sure, I'll check the new kit is working as intended, and if I swap my PC case I'll keep an eye on temperatures. Nowadays, I tend to monitor my PC a little less. I used to be really obsessed with checking my temperatures and fan speeds, like annoyingly into it, and while I'm sure not everyone is going to want to to check their PC temps mid-game, I sure did. Besides tracking CPU/GPU temperatures, NZXT CAM also monitors other areas such as CPU/GPU load, Current FPS, and time played. This is perfect for gamers who plan for hours-long playtime or anyone who uses their PC extensively in one sitting. Now onto my second recommendation: maybe you don't always need to keep an eye on your PC's every electrical action. With NZXT CAM, you get real-time temperature monitoring for your PC. That is a bit of an all-in-one open RGB control app that not only simplifies the many apps you have to install and keep up-to-date, but also allows you to then ditch the proprietary monitoring software for something simpler. Though you might find you can get the same functionality from third-party tools such as OpenRGB. So sometimes you're a bit stuck with one of them.Įven I'm stuck with a few of them and I'm not all that pleased about it. Those added extras are normally always to do with proprietary lighting or features on the manufacturers products that you might not be able to control easily elsewhere. ![]() There are tons to choose from, every manufacturer has one, basically, but they all achieve something along the lines of system monitoring with a few added extras along the way. Though what I've never been a fan of are the all-in-one manufacturer specific system monitoring tools, and that's why you won't find me recommending any here today. HWMonitor is fast, simple, logs all the information you could need out of it, and keeps track of every PC vital stat you could reasonably be after. That helps when you're doing some actively to the system and wish to monitor the impact those changes have in real-time. While it's effectively more of the same by way of monitoring, the handy GPU overclocking tools and live graph presentation really aid in easily understanding the monitoring data presented to you over time. I'd also like to give an honourable mention to the old hand that is MSI's Afterburner software. The built-in tools Performance tab offers a lot of data nowadays without the need for any third-party tools, and it'll even report your graphics card's temperature. In this way, it is easier to control the values.Another system monitoring tool worth mentioning, and in keeping with the spirit of minimal fuss, is Windows' own Task Manager. ![]() If a measurement goes wrong, this becomes apparent faster. A data logger's reproducibility takes pressure off the measuring values, because it makes more accurate comparisons possible. The instrument must have repeatability to check how precise the measurements are. Measuring accuracy is therefore a point to be considered when it comes to choosing the appropriate instrument. However, if you just want to measure the ambient conditions in an office, the values do not need to be exact down to the decimal point. It is particularly important to get precise values when it comes to cold chain compliance. ![]() If you use the data logger for checking rooms to monitor indoor air quality, the accuracy is less important than in a special cooling chamber. The accuracy of measurement may be more important in some areas than in other categories. An important factor when choosing a temperature data logger and humidity is the question of where you intend to use it. ![]()

![]() ![]() Replaying the same game until you either win, get tired of it, or convince yourself that it’s unwinnable, though, that’s a challenge. You can use similar Save tricks to never enter a loss in the statistics, but that’s pointless. But a friend told me that you can Save a game at the beginning, then keep playing the same game over and over again without it counting as a loss by just going to the Open Last Saved Game (“Replay Game” counts as a loss). With liberal use of “undo” I can win about 45% of Spider Solitaire hands. Sometimes forming a full suit can cause you to lose by leaving you in an untenable position, one that you could have gotten out of if you still had the lost suit to play with. The Windows version has an undo function that is limited only by each deal from the stock (which happens 5 times per game), or when a suit is formed and moved off the tableau to the foundation. Without the undo, I eventually got a win statistic of slightly less than 10%. Of course, that was before I began to really use the “undo” function. ![]() It took me probably 20 or 30 games at the beginning before I won my first game at the highest difficulty level, where all four suits are used. Spider has a huge amount of “top,” room to get better and better. At least one of them is unwinnable, I forget the number, but it can be found if you do a web search for it. You can also replay the same hand, over and over, and they’re numbered in the Windows version, so you can tell your friends about specific deals. You can only get so good at Freecell, and most people can get that good, or pretty nearly. But it’s a full information game, which means that luck mostly doesn’t come in to it, and there’s a ceiling. In the Windows (and most other) implementations, the “undo” is severely limited.įreecell is much more a matter of skill, and most games are winnable. There are a few choices during the game, but most often, there is no way to determine whether or not which choice is best. “Regular” solitaire, Klondike, in other words, is pretty much a matter of luck, except when you miss a play. The skill-to-luck ratios of solitaires are pretty obvious. Computer solitaire games are in an entirely different universe from the hard copy versions, not least being that they can keep statistics. I’m writing about the Windows version, though I’ve tried several other computer variants, and they’re pretty much as bad. The fewer moves you make to succeed gives you a higher score. In response to a comment by black dog barking: ![]() ![]() If a line is complete with cards from king to an ace, that line disappears. This is stored in the NumPy array size_of_table. You also recorded the size of each of table you waited. We can use it to modify the size of our markers based on another variable. This is incredibly useful let’s use show more data on our scatter plot. If we pass an array to s, we set the size of each point individually. And unlike for s=1, you don’t have to strain to see the different markers. There is still some overlap between points but it is easier to spot. We think that s=20 strikes a nice balance for this particular plot. This is too big for our plot and obscures a lot of the data. # Big sĪlternatively, a large number makes the markers bigger. For some plots with a lot of data, setting s to a very small number makes it much easier to read. Setting s=1 is too small for this plot and makes it hard to read. # Small sĪ small number makes each marker small. To set the best marker size for a scatter plot, draw it a few times with different s values. For more info, check out this Stack Overflow answer. To get the area of a square region, we do length**2. Markers color certain areas of those regions. One way to remember this syntax is that graphs are made up of square regions. We’re not sure why plt.scatter() defines this differently. For most of them, if you want markers with area 5, you write s=5. ![]() The other matplotlib functions do not define marker size in this way. This means that if we want a marker to have area 5, we must write s=5**2. In plt.scatter(), the default marker size is s=72. The s keyword argument controls the size of markers in plt.scatter(). We can fix this by changing the marker size. It’s hard to see the relationship in the $10-$30 total bill range. This looks nice but the markers are quite large. To save space, we won’t include the label or title code from now on, but make sure you do. Let’s add some axis labels and a title to make our scatter plot easier to understand. They tell us more about the plot and is it essential you include them on every plot you make. So we should try and get our customers to spend as much as possible. This means that as the bill increases, so does the tip. Nice! It looks like there is a positive correlation between a total_bill and tip. A scatter graph shows what happens to the dependent variable ( y) when we change the independent variable ( x). We call the former the independent variable and the latter the dependent variable. First, we pass the x-axis variable, then the y-axis one. It’s very easy to do in matplotlib – use the plt.scatter() function. Let’s make a scatter plot of total_bill against tip. The variables total_bill and tip are both NumPy arrays. Don’t worry if you don’t understand what this is just yet. The variable tips_df is a pandas DataFrame.
